Albert Einstein (14th March 1879 – 18th April 1955) was a German-born theoretical physicist known as one of the greatest scientists of all time. As an ethnic Jew he immigrated to the USA to avoid pending persecution that ensued in Europe. Einstein name is synonymous with being a genius and his name is used interchangeably.
To avoid the question of how the universe started, Einstein added the cosmological constant to his theory of general relativity to point to a static, unchanging universe. However, just a few years later, the work by George Lemaitre and Edwin Hubble showed that the universe was expanding and so started from a central point in time and space, the so-called Big Bang theory. Einstein himself said this was his greatest mistake.
